A young man named Mozahar Ali (32) has confessed to suffocating his father after searching the land with his older brother and sister-in-law. His home is in the Bhatkhali village of Bagmara upazila in Rajshahi. He claimed that his mother Anwara Begum (50) and his wife Jannatun Nesa (22) helped him kill his father Mahmud Ali Shah (62).

Rajshahi’s Chief Judge Ariful Islam took the confessional statement on Tuesday night.

Mahmud Ali Shah’s body was recovered after breaking down the door of his house on Monday afternoon. Khaleda Begum, wife of the eldest son of the deceased, filed a lawsuit against the three. After presenting the case, the police arrested the victim’s wife, the youngest son and the youngest son’s wife.

Bagmara Police Officer in Charge (CO) Mostaq Ahmed said Mozahar Ali and his wife Jannatun Nesa testified under Section 164 before Judge Ariful Islam.

Quoting the court, Rajshahi district police spokesman Ifte Khair Alam told Prothom Alo that Mozahar had killed his father out of resentment over his father’s immorality and out of anger at having given land to his older brother-in-law .
