A young man committed suicide on the court premises out of anger at not being able to find his wife and son after filing a case in Habiganj. He committed suicide by stabbing himself in the chest at noon on Monday (December 14).

The deceased was identified as Hafizur Rahman, 30, the son of Nur Miah from Kamrapur village in the city. Upon receiving the news, the police recovered the body and sent it to the Sadar Modern Hospital morgue.

Police and eyewitnesses said that Hafizur Rahman married Bushra Begum, 25, daughter of Abdul Khaleq from Khagaura village in Baniachang upazila a few years ago. They also have a son. Meanwhile, they disagree on family matters. At one point, Bushra went to her father’s house. Later, Hafizur approached the court to search for his wife and son.

Appearing in court Monday afternoon in the case, Bushra said she would not go with her husband. Faced with this, the court ordered that he pass into the custody of his father. Then Hafiz walked off the court and stabbed himself in the chest. When he was seriously injured, the people present rescued him and sent him to Sadar Hospital. He was sent to Sylhet in critical condition and died on the way.

Sadar OC Police Station (Investigation) Daus Mohammad confirmed the incident and said that the body was recovered and that an investigation report was prepared and sent to the morgue for autopsy.
