Teknaf Upazila Nirbahi (UN) official Mohammad Saiful Islam said arrangements were made to send tourists to St. Martin safely after contacting the ship’s authorities. The ship’s damaged gear motor case has now been repaired. The ship arrives at Teknaf with other tourists.
Zakir Hossain, Teknaf’s managing director, said the ship was unable to leave St. Martin’s for Teknaf yesterday due to mechanical failure. Arrangements are made for tourists to stay and eat at night. Due to rush work, 35 tourists were arranged to arrive at Teknaf by speedboat in the morning. A technician was brought in from Chittagong at night and the ship’s gearbox was repaired in the morning. At the request of tourists, the ship left St. Martin this afternoon with 160 people stranded.
Sadequr Rahman, a student at a private university in Rajshahi, who was on the ship, told Prothom Alo on his mobile phone that the ship was unable to return yesterday due to an engine problem. However, the ship’s authorities made arrangements to keep the tourists safe.
