In northern Cyprus, Ersin Tatar won the presidential elections. He is currently the Prime Minister. He obtained 51.84 percent of the votes. Mustafa Akinsi, who is in favor of the unity of the two Cypriots, received 48.28 percent of the votes.

The leader of the right was backed by Turkey. The Tatars favor a separate existence in Northern Cyprus. That is what Turkey wants. Shortly after his victory, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan congratulated him.

Erdogan tweeted: “Congratulations to Ersin Tatar on being elected president. Turkey will continue to help him and the people of the country in every way possible.

Acinci accepted the rate. He was in favor of the annexation of Northern Cyprus to the Republic of Cyprus. “The election was not normal,” he said. But this ended my 45-year political career. I wish the people of the country good luck. “

The number of voters in Northern Cyprus is two million. No one got an absolute majority in the first round last week.

Akinci was elected president in 2015 with 80 percent of the vote. He had a chance to win in the second round. Especially after the third-place Social Democratic candidate, Erthuman, backed him. But Akinci opposed Turkish political intervention. He previously said that they regularly threatened him and asked him to withdraw his candidacy.

Greece is now in conflict with Turkey over gas exploration in the eastern Mediterranean. The role of Northern Cyprus and the Republic of Cyprus has also become important in this situation. From that point of view, the result will be a relief for Erdogan.
