Earlier, President Trump said he wanted to withdraw all American troops before Christmas.

According to the BBC, the Trump administration will have to complete the withdrawal process by January 15 before Joe Biden, elected by the United States, comes to power.

Although Joe Biden won the preliminary count in the November 3 election, Trump did not accept it, citing election fraud.

Trump’s decision to withdraw the troops has drawn criticism from members of his Republican Party. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said the decision would give militants a chance.

Previously, President Trump had opposed the deployment of troops in several countries. He also commented that military intervention in different countries was very costly and ineffective.

Citing officials, the Associated Press reported that senior military officials had already been informed of plans to withdraw troops from Iraq and Afghanistan. An executive order is being drafted, but has not yet been sent to commanders.

The United States began withdrawing troops from Afghanistan earlier this year as part of a peace deal with the Taliban. The Pentagon announced last September that it had withdrawn more than a third of its troops from Iraq.
