The United States is considering pulling guerrillas out of Syria by the Kurdistan Workers’ Party, or PKK. The United States wants to increase cooperation with Turkey in Syria, saying the guerrillas have special ties to terrorists. The United States itself has illegally occupied Syrian territory.
“We want the PKK to get the guerrillas out of Syria,” James Jeffrey, the US special envoy for Syria, told Jordan-based Syria Direct News.
In an interview, he acknowledged that US tensions with Turkey have escalated due to the PKK’s support for guerrilla positions in Syria. We want to reduce this tension. “
Explaining the main goal of getting the PKK guerrillas out of Syria, James Jeffrey stated that the United States has close cooperation with Turkey in all parts of Syria except the northwest.
“We have agreements with Turkey, even in the northwest,” he said.
The United States has long supported the PKK guerrillas. The United States has provided weapons and money to the Popular Protection Unit (YPG) and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF). The PKK guerrillas have close ties to these two organizations. By coordinating with the Kurdish guerrillas as a whole, the United States has sought to overthrow Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and weaken the position of allies in Syria, such as Iran and Russia.
But Turkey has always opposed this American policy. Because the PKK guerrillas have been isolated from Turkey and are working to form a separate state. The YPG and SDF act as their allied guerrilla organizations.
