The Pentagon says Ankara-Washington relations will be threatened if Turkey launches S-400 missiles bought from Russia.

Recently, Turkish media reported that the country will soon test the S-400 system collected from Russia to test its effectiveness. Following the news, on October 6, the US State Department threatened to impose sanctions on Turkey if it did so.
Turkey is the first NATO ally to receive state-of-the-art S-400 air defense systems from Russia. In 2016, Turkey signed a $ 5.2 billion deal with Russia to acquire four of those weapons. Moscow began supplying the system to Ankara in July 2019, a process that is still ongoing.
The US government has been warning Turkey since 2016 to buy S-400s from Russia. But Ankara has said it will not terminate the agreement with Russia under any circumstances.
