Testimony in the court of Kushtia
Among the four defendants arrested in the case brought in connection with the vandalism of an under-construction sculpture by Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in Kushtia, two madrasa teachers have testified under article 164 in court. They have confessed to having collaborated in the escape of the main accused after that incident.
Two madrassa teachers testified in the court of Kushtia’s highest judicial magistrate, Delwar Hossain, on Saturday afternoon (12 December). They are: Ibn Masood (ra) Madrasa teacher from the Jagati Paschimpara area of Kushtia city and Md. Dhubail village of Mirpur upazila of Kushtia. Al Amin (26) and resident of the Pabna Aminpur Police Station, Diar Bamundi area. Yusuf Ali (26). After four days of questioning in police custody, the investigating officer of the case and the inspector of the Kushtia Model Police Station, Nishi Kant Sarkar, brought them to court around 2:00 pm. They later testified.
On the other hand, two students from the madrasa, one of the main defendants in the case discussed on Sunday, can testify in court under article 164. They are students from the Hefz department of the same madrasa and from the town of Mirpur upazila of Kushtia in Md. Shingpur. Abu Bakar alias Mithun (19) and Sabuj Islam alias Nahid (20) from the Filipnagar (Golabaria) area of Daulatpur upazila district.

According to judicial sources, teacher Yusuf Ali stated in his statement that he was teaching in Hefz’s department in Madrasa Ibn Masood Kushtia. They are studying 16 students from 6 departments. Abu Bakar and Nahid, accused of vandalizing the Bangabandhu sculpture, are students from the same department. You can find out about his involvement in the vandalism incident of the Bangabandhu sculpture at 8:30 am last Saturday. Later he advised them to go home from the madrasa. The next time the police showed them CCTV footage of the vandalism, they would not admit it despite knowing the two defendants.
Another teacher, Al Amin, made a similar statement. However, he mentioned in his statement that everyone in that madrasa listens to Waz on their mobile phones. Mamunul Haque, Hafizur Rahman Siddiqui, Khaled Saifullah Ayubi and others especially liked listening to Waz. This madrasa teacher also advised the two accused madrasa students to move from the madrasa to their respective homes.
It can be mentioned that the sculpture under construction of Bangabandhu was vandalized at the intersection of five roads in the city of Kushtia on Friday night. A day later, the police arrested the two teachers and two students from the madrasa and took them into custody by court order.
