Two COs in Rajshahi have been charged with framing the husband of a policewoman. Inspector Hosne Ara Begum filed the complaint with the Rajshahi Metropolitan Police Commissioner on Wednesday (March 24). She claimed that a case had been brought against her husband under the Anti-Terrorism Act for conspiracy and that Shibir activists had wrongly spelled next to her name in the case. The Director of the Police Academy, Khandaker Golam Farooq (Additional Inspector General of Police), recommended that Hosne Ara’s allegations be properly investigated and necessary action taken.

Hosne Ara Begum is currently working as an adjunct to the Bangladesh Police Academy at Charghat in Rajshahi. His main place of work is the criminal investigation department of the Dhaka Police.

One of the two accused COs is Nibaran Chandra Barman from Boalia Police Station and the other is Mahbub Alam from Damkura Police Station. Among them, Mahbub Alam was the ex-husband of the complainant OC Hosne Ara Begum. Hosne Ara divorced Mahbub in 2016.

In the complaint, Hosne Ara Begum mentioned that she married Police Inspector Mahbub Alam in 2013 under Islamic Sharia. Mahbub Alam is currently working as an officer in charge of the Damkura Police Station in the Rajshahi metropolis. She divorced Mahbub Alam in 2016 after admitting physical and mental abuse. But even then Mahbub was pestering her to keep in touch with him. Later, Hosne Ara married Mamun Hussain, son of Abdul Wadud from the Lalitahar area of the Chandrima police station in Rajshahi.

Hosne Ara claimed that the officer in charge (police inspector) of the Boalia police station in the Rajshahi metropolis, Nibaran Chandra Barman, started harassing him at different times after he joined Rajshahi. ‘I like you so much’, ‘You look so attractive, if you get a girl like you, she won’t need anything’. Hosne Ara tries to avoid the problem.

The woman alleged: “Police inspector Mahbub Alam was working as a police officer from the Boalia police station to investigate. At that time, Police Inspector Nibaran Chandra Barman used to call me from time to time to talk about Mahbub Alam and say, ‘Can you marry another boy in the same city and start a family? You will be in danger. In addition, Police Inspector Mahbub Alam also called my current husband Mamun Hussain at the Motihar Police Station and made various threats. He said, ‘You can’t be good if you marry Hosne Ara Ara. Then he said, ‘Don’t make an enemy of me by mixing with him.’

Hosne Ara further wrote: “On March 16, at one thirty at night, my husband Mamun Hussain called me and told me that the police had arrived at the house. I spoke to the Boalia OC Police Station (Investigation) Latif from my husband’s phone. Then they left my mother-in-law’s house. Shortly after that, she came back around 2:20 and took my husband away. I called the police inspector (investigation) Latif and asked him if he had come looking for him (Mahbub Hussain). Latif said, yes, I took it. Since then, I have called OC Nibaran Chandra Varman and OC Investigation Latif numerous times to find out why they took my husband. But sadly, despite being a member of the police, they did not receive my call.

Then, around 8:10 in the morning, I arrived at the Boalia police station. The guard officer ASI Sultana informed me that my husband was taken to the Boalia police station after 2.30 pm. At that point, after speaking with the duty officer and other members of the police at the station, I learned that they did not have any political information on my husband’s behalf.

When I wanted to meet with my husband, the duty officer informed me that Mr. OC had a ban. Around 8.30 in the morning, OC Nibaran Chandra Varman came to the police station with a lungi, smiled and said: ‘He came running towards me. But it did not arrive in time. She added: “Her husband is camping.” I said, without fertilizers and not involved with any political party. Then she said: ‘I will release your husband if the police commissioner says so.’

Hosne Ara said she went to see her husband and saw marks of injuries on his face and hands. She took one of her husband’s two cell phones from the OC and went to court.

After taking your husband to court around 6pm on the same day, you may know that a case has been brought against him under the Anti-Terrorism Act and Shibir activists have written next to his name. Hosne Ara said: ‘My husband is not involved with Jamaat-e-Islami in any way. Basically my husband is not involved in any political party.

“My husband informed me that he was physically abused by other members of the team, including SI Matin from the Boalia police station,” she said. SI Matin said to my husband: ‘Have you had the fondness of marrying Mahbub Sir’s wife? Mr. Mahabub will ruin your life. Do you remember. ‘

Inspector Hosne Ara further wrote: ‘My husband is a journalist by profession. He is not associated with any political party. I was living a peaceful life with my husband. OC Boalia Nibaran Chandra Varman could not apply his dirty personal intentions on me and OC Mahbub Alam has brought a false case against my husband with the purpose of destroying my life for my previous assault against me. I have done this to discredit my family and society. I humbly request legal action against those involved in this incident.

When contacted, OC Mahbub Alam claimed that such incidents were not correct. He said: ‘He was married to Hosni Ara. After that, he got divorced. I haven’t had any contact with him since. He made false accusations to get me.

OC Nibaran Chandra Barman said: “Hosne Ara did not have any objectionable talk. Your husband has been arrested on specific charges. But to save her husband, she made false accusations on my behalf.

Golam Ruhul Quddus, Rajshahi Metropolitan Police spokesman and additional deputy police commissioner (headquarters), said Wednesday night: “A female police officer filed a complaint. But I did not read the complaint. So I can’t say much about it. ‘
