Munshiganj: Work has begun to install the 41st and last section of ‘Two-F’ on the Padma Bridge. The span is placed on piers 12 and 13 of the bridge at the Mawa end of Munshiganj.
6.15 km of the bridge will be visible by placing these two pillars located on the main river of Padma. Six days after the installation of section 40, local and foreign engineers have started the installation process of the section.
Meanwhile, around 5:05 pm on Wednesday (December 9), a floating crane called ‘Tian-e’ left the Mawa Construction Yard in Munshiganj with a span of 150 meters long. Then he reached pillars 12 and 13. Today only the section rises to the height of the pillar. Anchoring work is being done before.
According to Padma Bridge’s source engineer, the positioning steps have been started, then lifting the span to the height of the abutment and placing it on the bearing. If all goes well, it will be visible before noon. Since morning the details have been checked and selected and the last step examined.
In the meantime, steps have been taken to ensure that vessels sailing around piers 12 and 13 do not interfere with the installation of spans. That is why the Bangladesh Army ships are stationed there all the time. Instructions are being given for safe distances.
Construction of the bridge began in December 2014. The first span was laid on September 30, 2016 at Pillars No. 37 and 38. 2,918 road slabs will be required for the construction of the Padma Bridge. In addition, 2,959 railway floors will be installed. These slabs are being placed in the spans placed at the ends of Mawa and Jajira.
The main shape of the 6.15 km long multi-purpose bridge will be two-story. The Padma Bridge structure is being built with concrete and steel. Vehicles will circulate on the top of the bridge and trains on the bottom. China Major Bridge Engineering Company (MBEC), a Chinese contractor, is working on the construction of the main bridge and Sino Hydro Corporation, another Chinese company, is working on managing the river.
