A trawler carrying brides sank in the Meghna River at Hatia in Noakhali. The trawler sank southwest of President Ghat around 1:30 p.m. Tuesday. The bodies of six people have been recovered, including the bride and three children.
According to the upazila administration and local sources, a trawler carrying brides was heading towards Dhalchar of Meghna from Keringchar of Hatiyar Chandi Union at noon. On the way to the southwest of President Ghat and south of Tangirghat, it capsized and sank into the river. Some 25-30 passengers from the trawler then swam ashore with the help of fishermen in the river. The trawler was later rescued from the river with the help of the locals. The bodies of five people, including the bride, were found inside the trawler until the report was written at 5.30 p.m.
Hatia Upazila, executive officer (UNO), said at the scene. Imran Hossain confirmed the incident of the sinking of the trawler carrying the bride and groom and told Prothom Alo that the incident took place around noon. The trawler had more than 50 passengers. The bodies of six people, including the bride, were recovered from the sunken trawler in the afternoon.
The bodies of Taslima Akhter (21), Achma Akhter (19), Afrima Akhter aka Lamia (2), Lily Akhter (6), Hosne Ara Begum (5) and an unidentified person were recovered from the sunken trawler, the UN said. Done.
Hatia Police Officer in Charge (CO) Abul Khair said the exact number of passengers on the sunken trawler was not yet known. However, in addition to the naval police, the police are also working to rescue the missing passengers.
