The tourist boat ‘ST Bahasa Shaheed Salam’, which was stranded at sea on its way back from St. Martin, has been relaunched. The ship returned to Teknaf with stranded tourists from St. Martin’s Jetty around 3:30 p.m. Monday.
Earlier Sunday, around 4 p.m., 205 tourists from St. Martins were returning to Teknaf when its engine broke down in the middle of the sea. About three hours later, speedboats and trawlers arrived from St. Martins and brought the tourists back to the island, but the ship was not rescued that day.
Teknaf Upazila Nirbahi (UN) official Mohammad Saiful Islam said arrangements were made to send tourists to St. Martin safely after contacting the ship’s authorities. Today the ship returned to Teknaf with tourists from St. Martins after repairing the damaged gear motor case.
Zakir Hossain Russell, managing director of ST Bahasa Shahid Salam’s Teknaf ship, said the ship was unable to leave Teknaf of St. Martin on Sunday due to mechanical failure. Arrangements are made for tourists to stay and eat at night. Due to urgent work, 35 tourists have been arranged to reach Teknaf by speedboat in the morning. A technician was brought in from Chittagong at night and the ship’s gearbox was repaired in the morning. At the request of tourists, the ship with 160 stranded people reached Teknaf safely on Monday afternoon.
