Armenia and Azerbaijan, fighting for the disputed Nagorno-Karabakh region, agreed to a third ceasefire brokered by the United States. But that didn’t last either. The two countries also violated two previous ceasefire agreements negotiated by Russia since the start of the military conflict in late September.
According to the media, the shelling continued on Sunday night. The two conflicting parties blame each other. Armenia-Azerbaijan agreed to a ceasefire for the third time starting at 8am on Monday. Previously, the two countries had a long meeting since Friday under the auspices of the United States.
By the end of Sunday, the two sides had reached a humanitarian decision for a third ceasefire. But both sides have accused each other of violating the ceasefire since Monday morning. The Azerbaijani Foreign Minister blamed Armenia for the attack on Monday morning. On the other hand, the Armenian administration blames Azerbaijan.
The two countries have been at war over Nagorno-Karabakh for almost a month. Russia has been trying to lead the two countries to peace talks from the beginning. On two occasions, both sides agreed to a Russian-brokered ceasefire, but within minutes it went into effect.
Last week, Moscow brought the two countries back to the negotiating table. The Chancellors of Armenia and Azerbaijan met last Thursday in the presence of the Russian Foreign Minister. But it was not undone.
Representatives from Armenia and Azerbaijan met with US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and then with US diplomats. After a long meeting, a new ceasefire was decided on Sunday night. The United States, Azerbaijan and Armenia also issued a joint statement.
Congratulations to Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, who have just agreed to adhere to an effective ceasefire at midnight. Many lives will be saved. Proud of my team @SecPompeo And Steve Biegun and @WHNSC for making the deal!

It is said that since 8 am on Monday a ceasefire has been declared for humanitarian reasons. But on Monday morning, the Azerbaijani Foreign Minister claimed that Armenia had attacked his city of Tartar. After that, Armenia also made contrary accusations. They claim that Azeri troops violated the first ceasefire.
The proposal for a third ceasefire has been raised in various sectors since Sunday. That question became even more important in a tweet from the President of Azerbaijan on Sunday morning. “Everyone has the right to defend their country,” he wrote. Azerbaijan will defend its country until the last day.
When a ceasefire agreement was being signed between the two countries, mediated by Washington, the Azerbaijani army said it had been destroyed when an Armenian fighter plane crashed into the Azerbaijani border.
Nagorno-Karabakh troops have claimed that Azerbaijani forces have shelled various settlements in the region throughout the day. Azerbaijan, however, denied the bombing. But they claim the army has been fighting with mortars and light machine guns all day.
Meanwhile, Iran’s elite force, IRGC, said on Sunday that it had multiplied the number of troops on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border. This measure has been taken to avoid suffering damage in the war between the two countries. Iran has previously claimed that a border area between the two countries was destroyed by shelling.
