In Jhalokati, a teenager went on a hunger strike in front of the police station demanding the arrest of the torturer. He went on a hunger strike around 12 noon on Thursday. The girl threatened to commit suicide in front of the police station if the accused was not arrested within 72 hours.
After rejecting the love proposal, a young man named Adnan entered the home at noon on October 2 and attacked 18-year-old Nasreen Akhter Sara, a college student with a golden adolescent degree. A case was filed at the police station that same night.
A week after the case, the police were unable to arrest the accused. On the contrary, there are pressures from various sectors to solve the problem.
Enraged by this, the girl went on a hunger strike in front of the police station with a sign in hand. Upon seeing him, countless people crowded in front of the police station. Sara demanded a torture trial, not a settlement.
Upon hearing the news, Sara’s sister and brother-in-law arrived and burst into tears. They also demanded justice for the incident. After the police arrived and claimed to arrest the accused within 72 hours, Sara went on a hunger strike. Sara Jhalokati is a student in class XII of Aklima Moazzem Degree College.
According to Sara, Jubayer Adnan, son of Imam Zakir Hossain of a mosque in the Ponabalia Union of Jhalokati Sadar Upazila, had been proposing love to her for some time. When Adnan turned down the offer, he was enraged and went to Sara’s older sister Akhinur’s rented house on Adnan Fakirbari Road in Jubay on Friday afternoon and launched a surprise attack. At one point in the beating, Adnan lost consciousness and fled. Upon receiving the news, the older sister and the neighbors rescued Sara and admitted her to Jhalokati Sadar Hospital.
Sitting on a hunger strike, Sara complained that Zubair and his associates were pressuring my family to drop the case. Even propaganda about us is spread through social media. My name is already being misrepresented with some Facebook IDs. If this situation continues, I will have no choice but to commit suicide. I demand justice for the torture, not a settlement. If the defendant is not arrested within 72 hours, I will walk past the police station and commit suicide.
Sarah’s sister, Akhinur Akhter, said: “Even after a week of torturing my sister, the police were unable to arrest the accused.” They pressure us to drop the case as we are defenseless. Jubayer Adnan’s father has filed a false complaint against us in court. We want justice for Sarah’s torture. The accused must be arrested and punished in an exemplary manner.
Jhalokati police said YES. Farooq Hossain said police were trying to arrest the defendant after the case. Sara went on a hunger strike after being assured of her arrest within 72 hours.
