The United States Supreme Court struck down the New York Governor’s ban on coronavirus infections. Governor Andrew Cuomo issued a directive establishing the maximum number of participants in all religious gatherings there. However, a Jewish church and two religious organizations filed a lawsuit in the lower court against the directive. However, the verdict is in favor of the governor. Later, the verdict was taken to the Supreme Court. And that’s where the judges ruled against such control. The verdict goes in favor of the religious group with a 5-4 majority. Justice Amy Connie Barrett, President Trump’s last Supreme Court appointee, defended conservatives in the case. As a judge, Barrett made his position in favor of the Conservatives clear in his first verdict.
The verdict said the court was not a health expert. But even in the midst of this epidemic, the constitution cannot be set aside. Even during the epidemic, people’s constitutional rights must be guaranteed. The restrictions imposed could hamper religious freedom for many people. The First Amendment to the United States Constitution guarantees the free exercise of religious freedom for citizens.
