A senior officer told me to go now. Come two months later. Then it will be quite cold, ”said Akbar Hossain Bhuiyan, the dismissed officer of the Bandarbazar outpost in Sylhet, after interrogating the Khasias inside India.
On October 11, a young man named Raihan Ahmed died after being tortured by the police at the outpost and fled to avoid arrest.
He was detained by locals from a Khasia village within the Indian side of the Dona border at the Laxmiprasad junction of Kanaighat upazila in Sylhet on Monday morning.
According to sources from the BGB and the Police Investigation Bureau (PBI), they later turned the man over to the police after handing him over to a resident on the border with Bangladesh.
Meanwhile, some videos of Akbar’s arrest went viral on social media Facebook.
As seen in such a video, when some young men from Khasia tied him up and asked him various questions, Akbar answered him.
Regarding Raihan’s death, he said: ‘I didn’t kill on purpose, I didn’t kill alone. Five or six people were arrested, for which they died.
When asked what he did, Akbar said: ‘He stole the money, we didn’t know him. The audience was beating, we took him to the hospital, there he died.
When asked why he had fled, he said: “I am suspended and could be arrested.” So he says that after two months it will cool down, after it gets cold it can be handled ”.
Later he said: ‘A superior officer told me to go now, to come two months later. By then it will be quite cold.
When asked how he escaped to India, Akbar said: ‘A family in India said I should come here. Majhergaon through Bholaganj ‘.
Majhergaon Bholaganj is an area of Kompaniganj upazila in Sylhet.
In the following video, it is seen that there are some Bangladeshis with youth from Khasia. Akbar’s handcuffs are untied and new hands are tied.
Meanwhile, a press conference has been organized at 5 pm to give details about Akbar’s arrest.
“If the district police hand over Akbar to us, we will arrest him and bring him to court,” PBI Sylhet Special Police Superintendent Muhammad Khaled-uz-Zaman told The Daily Star.
