A student at the University of Dhaka (DU) had alleged that she was raped in an affair with Hasan Al Mamun, a former convener of the Bangladesh Student Rights Council. But the investigative committee formed by the Council for the Protection of Student Rights found no evidence of this accusation. The committee said the complaining student was unable to provide any evidence to the committee.
The three-member inquiry committee presented its inquiry report to the organization’s central council on Sunday. This information was later released in a press release from the organization.
The investigation committee said in its report: “Although the complainant mentioned his love affair with Hassan Al Mamun in the statement of the case, Hassan Al Mamun denied it.” They identify themselves as students from the same department, not in terms of organizational work. The investigation committee found no evidence as to whether there was any incidents of sexual intercourse showing the temptation of marriage. Even the complainant was unable to provide any information to the investigation committee.
The DU student spoke to NTV Online Sunday night about the investigation report. He said: ‘Rafia Sultana, member of the inquiry committee of the Bangladesh Student Rights Council, spoke to me. What proof will I give you of the rape? It’s about the medical report, which I delivered to the police station. Furthermore, from the beginning, the Student Rights Council was in favor of violators. In that case, what will they report? Do those against whom the accusations have the power to investigate properly? Apart from a fair report, they have no right to investigate. I reject this report as unfounded and false.
The committee’s investigation report read: ‘The complaining student never met the former Vice President of Daksh Nurul Haque Nur. However, about three months ago, the author once called Nurul Haque Nur and told him that he would go to Dhaka to meet him, but he did not meet him.
According to the report, Saiful Islam, joint coordinator of the Student Rights Council, Nazmul Huda, DU branch vice president, and Abdullah Hill Baki were also found guilty of defaming the plaintiff. Furthermore, the accusations made against the defendants in the case have turned out to be false and unfounded.
Muhammad Rashed Khan, interim coordinator of the organization, told NTV Online: “We have spoken with the complainant, his family and many other stakeholders. I tried to find out. That student was also unable to give us any evidence of rape. He could not even prove that Nur had met in Nilkhet.
Muhammad Rashed Khan said: “Hasan Al Mamun said that he had a good relationship with the complainant. But there was no love or physical relationship.
Meanwhile, the former convener of the Bangladesh Student Rights Council, Hasan Al Mamun, was suspended from the organization after the case. Rashed Khan also said that the deportation order against him would continue until the court decides the case.
On 20 September, the Dhaka University student filed a case with the Lalbagh Police Station against six people, including Nurul Haque Nur, for allegedly raping and assisting in the rape. The next day, September 21, the student filed another case with the Kotwali Police Station accusing the same people of kidnapping, raping, collaborating, inciting and spreading propaganda through digital media.
In this context, on September 23, the organization formed a three-member investigative committee headed by Bin Yamin Mollah, chairman of the DU branch of Bangladesh Chhatra Odhikar Parishad.
The defendants in the case brought to the Lalbagh Police Station are Hasan Al Mamun (28), Joint Coordinator of the Bangladesh Student Rights Council, Nazmul Hasan Sohag (28), Nurul Haque Nur (25), former Vice President of Daksh, Saiful Islam (28), Joint Coordinator of the Student Rights Council of Dhaka University. Nazmul Huda (25) and Abdullah Hill Baki (23), vice presidents of the Council on Student Rights. Nazmul Hasan Sohag was named defendant number one and Hasan Al Mamun number two in the case brought to the Kotwali police station. Nur became the third defendant in two cases.
The student went on a hunger strike in front of the Raju sculpture at Dhaka University on Thursday night demanding the arrest of the defendants in the case. He got sick while fasting. When he fell ill around 12:30 pm on Friday, he was immediately given saline solution. Then he fell seriously ill on Saturday night. Later he was admitted to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital. Feeling a little better Sunday morning, he left the hospital and went on a hunger strike again.
