One of the five most powerful cyclones in the world is heading south towards the Philippines. At a speed of more than 200 kilometers per hour, the storm is expected to hit the island of Luzon on Sunday.

The country’s weather and disaster management officials say the world’s strongest cyclone this year could hit Luzon on Sunday with speeds of 215 to 285 km / h. Officials also expressed fears of landslides due to heavy rains caused by the cyclone.

Previously, Hurricane Haiyan hit the Philippines. It killed more than 6,300 people in the country.

“We are going through a difficult time fighting Corona,” Christopher Go, the top aide to the Philippine president and senator in parliament, told an online news conference. Meanwhile, another disaster has appeared. Local authorities must ensure that the virus does not spread when people are evacuated.

Ricardo Jalad, executive director of the country’s National Disaster Management Authority, said authorities had evacuated more than 694,000 people in Albe province as a precaution. He said that more than 1,000 Corona patients from the capital Manila and neighboring Bulacan province could be evacuated to hotels and hospitals.

The Philippines has the second highest number of coronavirus infections and deaths among Southeast Asian countries. So far, the virus has infected more than 360,000 people in the country and has killed more than 6,221 people.

Hurricane Molav killed at least 22 people in southern Manila last week. Cyclone Gani is coming towards the country in the same way.
