Dhaka: Faridpur-4 MP Mujibur Rahman Chowdhury, aka Nixon Chowdhury, was released on bail from the High Court in a case brought by the Election Commission (EC) alleging violation of the electoral code of conduct.
The matter is likely to be heard in the Appellate Division Chamber Court on Thursday (October 22).
After appearing in court on bail on October 20, Judge Sheikh Mohammad. The Zakir Hossain High Court and Judge KM Zahid Sarwar granted Nixon Chowdhury an eight-week advance bond.
Nixon Chowdhury’s attorney was heard in court. Shahdin Malik. Lawyer M Manzur Alam was with him.
Shahdin Malik later told reporters that the court had granted Nixon Chowdhury a bond eight weeks in advance. However, there are some conditions.
These witnesses cannot be influenced, the investigation must be assisted.
The EC filed a case against Nixon on October 15 for violating the code of conduct as a member of Parliament in the Upazila elections.
The Noabul Islam District Senior Election Officer presented the case on behalf of the EC at the Charbhadrasan Police Station in Faridpur.
The case alleges that the Deputy Commissioner (DC) was threatened and election officials suffered abuse in connection with the by-election for the office of Charbhadrasan Upazila Parishad president.
The Charbhadrasan Upazila Parishad elections of Faridpur were held on October 10.
Nixon Chowdhury threatened the deputy commissioner and executive officials of upazila and abused election officials. A letter was also sent to the Election Commission of the Cabinet Division seeking redress for the misconduct.
After reviewing the letter, the Commission Secretariat decided the case in accordance with the Upazila Parishad (Electoral Conduct) Rules.
However, Nixon Chowdhury claimed that he did not threaten anyone. He is being harassed for threatening video superedition.
