Prosecutors have demanded the death penalty under Article 302 of the Penal Code against 25 defendants in the beating death case of Abrar Fahad, a deserving student at the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET).
Today at 12 noon on Wednesday, the judge of the Dhaka trial court, Abu Zafar. The prosecutor (PP) Mosharraf Hossain Kajal, Ehsanul Haque Samaji and Abu Abdullah appeared before the Kamruzzaman court. On the same day, only 22 defendants arrested in the case were brought before the court from jail.
At the hearing, state attorney Kajal said: “All the defendants in jail have been brought before the court. The case is scheduled to be heard on a charge sheet. The whole world, including Abrar’s parents, is watching the trial in this sensational case. We are appealing to form charges against the defendant under Section 302 of the Penal Code.
Another attorney for the prosecution, Ehsanul Haque Samaji, said: I will appeal to the court to ensure that justice is established in light of the law.
Meanwhile, 22 defendants were presented in court from jail this morning on the occasion of the indictment hearing.
On the night of October 6 last year, Abrar was beaten to death by BCL leaders and activists in a room in BUET’s Sher-e-Bangla Hall. Abrar’s father filed a murder case at the Chawkbazar police station on October 7, charging 19 people with the incident.
Then on November 13 last year, said the investigator in the case, the detective branch of the police (DB) inspector (unarmed). Wahiduzzaman filed a charge sheet against 25 people.
The defendants are: BUET Chhatra League Secretary General Mehedi Hasan Russell, Deputy Secretary General Muhtamim Fouad, Information and Research Secretary. Anik Sarkar alias Apu, organization secretary Mehedi Hasan Robin alias Shant, Legal Under Secretary Amit Saha, Under Secretary for Social Services Ifti Mosharraf Sakal, Sports Secretary Md. Meftahul Islam Zion, Publications and Books Secretary Ishtiaq Ahmed Munna, activist Muntasir Al Jamie, Khandaker Tabakhkharul Islam Tanvir, Maryland. Mujahidur Rahman, Md. Moniruzzaman Monir, Akash Hossain, Hossain Mohammad Toha, Maryland. Majedur Rahman Majed, Shamim Billah, Muaz alias Abu Huraira, ASM Nazmus Sadat, roommate of Abrar Mizanur Rahman, Shamsul Arefin Rafat, Morshed Amatya Islam, SM Mahmud Setu, Muhammad Morshed-uz-Zaman Mondal alias Y Mujtaba Rafid.
Among the accused are Muhammad Morshed-uz-Zaman Mandal alias Jisan, Ehteshamul Rabbi alias Tanim and Mujtaba Rafid. The remaining 22 are in jail. Eight people have given confessional statements in court in this case.
On March 12, the Minister of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, Anisul Haque Abrar, approved the file to send the murder case to the lower court. On February 17, the father of the late Abrar Fahad applied to the Dhaka Metropolitan Public Prosecutor’s Office (PP) to send the case to the lower court. Barkat Ullah. Then the case was sent to a lower court. But the trial of the case was closed while court proceedings were closed due to the coronavirus.
