The Awami League will not give party nominations to candidates who have rebelled against the ship in various local government elections in the past. No matter how popular the leader is who disputes the elections disobeying the party’s decision, he will no longer get the ship symbol next time. A meeting of the Awami League Local Government Representatives Appointment Board was held on Saturday afternoon at the official residence of the Prime Minister in Ganobhaban. The president of the Awami League, Sheikh Hasina, chaired the meeting. The meeting was attended by members of the Awami League Advisory Council Amir Hossain Amu and Tofail Ahmed, Secretary General Obaidul Quader, Presidium members Sheikh Fazlul Karim Selim, Kazi Zafar Ullah, Muhammad Farooq Khan and the Secretary for Publicity and Publications, Dr. Abdus Sobhan Rose.
According to sources, the meeting was held to finalize the Awami League candidates in the next 25 municipal elections. There were 105 Awami League candidates in these municipalities. Two or three of them were rebel leaders who had won the last election by competing against the ship. A leader discussed the issue of being a rogue candidate at the meeting. Later, emphasizing establishing discipline in grassroots organizations, including districts and upazilas, several leaders emphasized taking a strict position at the center. Following such statements from the leaders, it was decided not to award party nominations to contestants as rogue candidates in the past. In light of that decision, no rebel Awami League candidate was nominated in 25 municipalities.
A leader present at the meeting told Kaler Kantha that the mayor of a municipality was discussed among the candidates. He was chosen last time competing against the ship. But several members of the Nominating Board said it would be difficult to maintain order in the party if the rebels were released. No matter how popular the pot opponent is, they will not be given a match nomination.
According to sources, several leaders at the meeting praised the Awami League’s recent decision to release the presidents and general secretaries of the two districts to establish grassroots discipline. The president of the Awami League, Sheikh Hasina, said such drastic measures will also continue in the future. District and metropolitan leaders who fail to advance the work of the organization due to grouping will be exempt.
Nominating board member Muhammad Farooq Khan told Kaler Kanth: “We are now emphasizing party discipline. That is why it has been unanimously decided not to nominate the rebels for the Awami League next time.

Kamran Chowdhury and Masud Uzzaman Masuk in Shayestaganj de Habiganj and Badiul Alam in Sitakunda of Chittagong District have received nominations from the party.
