The report ‘Bangladesh Demographic and Health Survey 2017-18’ released by the National Institute for Population Research and Training (NIPORT) earlier this year said that there are 11 million people with diabetes in the country. This number is 26 lakh among 18-34 year olds. And 64 lakh among those 35 and older. About 80 percent of men and women do not know they have diabetes.

Diabetes Day is celebrated around the world on November 14 (today is Saturday) to raise awareness about diabetes. On the occasion of the day, the Bangladesh Diabetic Association held a press conference at the Bardem General Hospital in the capital on Friday morning. Speaking on the occasion, Professor AK Azad Khan, president of the Diabetic Association, said that if people with diabetes have no crown, it will be fatal and if diabetes is not under control, it will be even more deadly. This diabetes expert says that type 2 diabetes is 80 percent preventable.
