Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina thanked the people and government of Turkey for supporting Bangladesh on various issues, including the Rohingya crisis.
He said: “Thank you for all kinds of help in solving the Rohingya crisis. I think it will be about three years. The Rohingya people should return to their homeland. I believe that Turkey can play an important role in this matter.
The Prime Minister made the remarks while inaugurating the Bangladesh Foreign Ministry Complex of the Ankara Mission in Turkey in a video conference from her official Ganobhaban residence on Monday (September 14).
Underlining the importance of strengthening Bangladesh’s bilateral relations with Turkey, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said: “Bangladesh wishes to further improve bilateral relations with Turkey for the benefit of the people of the two countries.” Bangladesh’s relationship with Turkey has deep roots. Diplomatic relations between Bangladesh and Turkey officially began in 1974, almost 50 years ago. Our relationship began in the 13th century. With the conquest of Bengal by the Turkish general Ikhtiyar Uddin Muhammad Bakhtiyar Khilji. The relationship between the two countries is deeply rooted in mutual trust based on history and tradition. Bangladesh attaches particular importance to relations with Turkey.

Referring to Bangabandhu’s dream, the Prime Minister said: ‘The father of the Bangabandhu nation Sheikh Mujibur Rahman did not just dream of a prosperous Bangladesh. He also dreamed of a world free of hunger and poverty. It has emphasized world peace and security for human well-being.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina mentioned her visit to Ankara in 2012 at the invitation of then-Prime Minister and current President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
The Prime Minister thanked the Turkish authorities for their cooperation in building the Bangladeshi Embassy in Ankara. The Prime Minister also praised the Bangladesh Embassy building with state-of-the-art facilities.
Referring to the current Corona epidemic crisis, Sheikh Hasina said: “The world is going through a difficult time with the Kovid-19 epidemic. The epidemic has paralyzed the health systems and economies of most countries in the world. In Bangladesh, we have successfully prevented the spread of the coronavirus. At the same time, we have been able to counter the devastating effects of this deadly virus by taking timely and appropriate measures and various incentive packages.
The Prime Minister praised the Turkish leadership for its success in fighting the deadly Crown.
The Bangladeshi Embassy in Ankara was allocated 45 million rupees and 8 lakh rupees for the construction of its own building. The construction of the building has cost less than Tk 2 crore 26 lakh. The money has been returned to the Bangladesh government treasury.
