According to sources from DNCC Region-1, the construction of 15 roads in Uttara was completed last August at a cost of Tk 12 crore. WASA contractors want permission to excavate three of these roads. But they were not allowed to dig the road as construction was completed a few months ago. But the contractor dug the road without permission.

The road was excavated by WASA, a contractor employed in the Dhaka Water Supply Network Improvement Project. When asked about this, the project manager, Akhtaruzjan, told Prothom Alo that the contractor had asked permission to dig the road. Meanwhile, the road works have also finished. The matter is being discussed with the city corporation, the matter will be resolved.

In addition to the two Dhaka city corporations, several companies excavate roads. The lack of proper coordination and management of the road excavation and subsequent repair activities caused misery to the people. The ‘Dhaka Metropolitan Road Excavation Policy-2019’ has been formulated to reduce the suffering of people due to road excavation in the corporate area of the city. Apart from the two Dhaka city corporations, the policy was finalized with the opinions and recommendations of Dhaka WASA, Titas Gas, DPDC, DESCO, BTCL.
