Along the way, Bogra, Rangpur, Paglapir, Jaldhaka arrived at Teesta Barrage Point on Sunday afternoon, organizers said.
From there, the procession reached Zero Point in Dimla Upazila de Nilphamari at night and gathered at the rally.
Bazlur Rashid Firoz, Rajekuzzaman Ratan, Nikhil Das, Joynal Abedin Mukul, Nab Kumar Karmakar, Alfaz Hossain Yubraj and Masud Parvez, members of the BSD from Rangpur district, addressed the demonstration under the chairmanship of Abdul Quddus, coordinator of the BSP division Rangpur.
Bazlur Rashid Firoz told the meeting that the Teesta is the fourth largest international river in the country. India is unilaterally drawing water from 54 common rivers, including the Teesta, in violation of international law and policy.
“As a result, the flow of water downstream from these rivers has decreased and the country faces the threat of desertification.”
He said that at one time there were 1,200 rivers in the country. The number of rivers has now been reduced to 230 due to mismanagement and pollution by governments. Most rivers have no water during the dry season.
He commented that many rivers that were once intoxicated have now turned into canals.
