The crisis of directors and deputy directors in the country’s government universities is long-standing. As a result, various problems of the universities will not be solved due to the lack of a proper decision. However, this problem will be fixed very soon.

It emerged that the Department of Secondary and Higher Education (Maushi) has searched for a list of government universities in the country that do not have a director and a deputy director. Nine Mausi regional directors have been ordered to submit the list by October 5 in an emergency.

When asked, Professor Syed Golam Farooq, CEO of Mausi, said: “Many people have been performing routine tasks as acting principals at different universities for a long time.” In some universities, the assistant principal acts as the principal. Again, many universities have a vice president crisis. The institutions face various problems due to the lack of director and deputy director. It is not possible to take effective initiatives to solve these problems. We want to fill in the blanks quickly.

He said there is no alternative to regularizing the positions to solve various academic, administrative and infrastructure problems of the university. We have requested a list of colleges where the regular principal and assistant principal positions are vacant. The list will be out on October 5. Hopefully, I will be able to solve them very soon.

Mahbub Hossain, secretary of the department of secondary and higher education in the Ministry of Education, said: “We are working to solve the crisis in the universities.” Applications for qualified teachers for the principal and assistant principal positions have already been invited. Many have requested it. The final decision can be made after verification and selection.

He further said that qualified teachers will be selected from applied teachers. There will be panels between them. On a panel basis, the positions of principals and deputy principals of the schools with vacant positions will be appointed. Vacancies at colleges that will be vacated later will be filled on a panel basis.

Last Thursday, Mausi sent a letter to the regional directors about it. The list is being compiled to fill vacancies.

According to Mausi sources, there are 632 public universities in the country. Of these, 141 universities have vacancies for directors. The position of deputy director of 27 universities is vacant. In addition, there are 2,008 vacant teaching positions, representing 16 percent of total positions. With the exception of a few universities in big cities, most government universities have teaching crises.
