Tarekul Islam Tareq, accused in the case of the rape of a young girl in the dormitory of Sylhet MC College, cut off his hair and beard to save himself and went into hiding to avoid arrest. However, the latter was not spared. The RAB arrested him at Dirai in Sunamganj on Tuesday night. All of the defendants in the case were detained through the arrest of Tareq.
Additional RAB-9 police have confirmed the arrest of Samiul Alam. He also said they were going to take him to Sylhet. Furthermore, the RAB arrested two more people named Ainul and Rajan on suspicion of being involved in the incident of raping a girl in the dormitory of Sylhet MC College.
Among the other defendants in the case, the Kanaighat police arrested defendant Mahfuzur Rahman of Haripur in Jaintapur upazila at 11pm on Monday. Early Sunday morning, Saifur Rahman, the main defendant in the case, was arrested in Chhatak and Arjun Lashkar in Madhabupar.
That same night, the RAB arrested defendant Shah Mahbubur Rahman Rony of Habiganj Sadar. That same night, the RAB-9 arrested Md. Ainuddin and Md. Rajan from Fenchuganj in Sylhet on suspicion of being involved in the incident. Detective police arrested Rabiul Islam from Nabiganj in Habiganj on Sunday night.
All those arrested have been identified as BCL leaders and activists. The other arrested defendant also said that Ainuddin and Rajan were involved in the incident.
It is worth mentioning that last Friday, the housewife was gang-raped by terrorists called Chhatra League while visiting MC College with her husband. The police rescued them later that night. The victim’s husband has filed a case at the Shahparan Police Station. Three other unidentified people, including six BCL leaders and activists, were charged in the case. Police have already arrested eight people, including six named defendants in the case.
The defendants in the case brought by the girl’s husband are Saifur Rahman (28), Tarekul Islam Tareq (28), son of Rafiqul Islam of Umednagar in Sunamganj Sadar Upazila, Mohammad of Bagunipara in Habiganj Sadar. Jahangir Miah’s son, Shah Mohammad. Mahbubur Rahman Rony (25), Arjun Laskar (25), son of Kanu Laskar from Atgram in Zakiganj, Rabiul Islam (25) from Barangadipur (Jagdal) village of Dirai upazila and Mahfuzur Rahman Masum (25) from Gachbari village of Kanaighat. In addition, three more unidentified persons were also charged.
