An 80-year-old woman was injured when the walls of a house under construction collapsed and she was injured. The incident took place in Chukaibari Rampura village in the middle of Chukaibari District 6 of Dewanganj upazila on Saturday.
According to the locals, Mamtaz Begum, 60, is a helpless old woman. The Prime Minister’s gift on his behalf was assigned to a disaster-proof pucca house in the year of Mujib. The house was under construction. The walls of the house under construction collapsed at noon. At that moment, Mumtaz Begum and his grandson Russell (26) were crushed by the wall. The locals rescued them in critical condition. Later, Mamata Begum was taken to the Dewanganj Upazila Health Complex.
Mumtaz Begum, who is receiving treatment at the hospital, regretted that the government gave him a house. That house collapsed on me.
Ershad, a home construction engineer, said the work was done with 8 bags of sand and 1 bag of cement.
Amir Uddin, the old woman’s son-in-law, told Jugantar that the walls had collapsed from working with less cement with loamy sand.
Rasheda, the old woman’s only daughter, said the house collapsed after working with more sand. In the same area, the walls of the gallery of the house under construction in Anwara Begum also collapsed.
Anwara said: I will not get up in that room, the rest will break in the wind.
Upazila Project Implementation Officer Enamul Hasan said construction of 182 disaster-tolerant houses is underway in Upazila. The houses are 19 feet long and 9 feet wide. The construction cost has been estimated at Tk 1 lakh 72 thousand per house.
Upazila Nirbahi’s officer, AKM Abdullah bin Rashid, told Jugantar that there could be defects in the construction work. The matter is undesirable. We are investigating the matter.
