Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has said that her government is working to transform the Bangladesh Army into a timely, modern, technologically equipped and well-informed force to meet the geopolitical and military challenges of the 21st century.
“We have taken the necessary steps to build an army capable of meeting the geopolitical and military challenges of the 21st century,” he said.
The Prime Minister said this while addressing a keynote guest function at the presentation of national flags to 10 units of the Bangladesh Army on Sunday morning.
The Prime Minister attended the main function held at Savar Cantonment via video conference from Ganobhaban.
Mentioning that the Awami League is an organization formed by the father of the nation and after 24 years of struggle, it is this Awami League that has brought us freedom under the leadership of the father of the nation.
Describing our army and armed forces as “symbols of freedom and sovereignty,” he said: “It is our national responsibility to develop them as a whole.”

The Prime Minister said: ‘This flag of ours was earned in exchange for the blood of millions of martyrs. This flag is a symbol of the independence, sovereignty, honor and dignity of a nation. It is everyone’s responsibility to protect the quality of this flag. Each soldier and all the people must protect the banner of this flag.
Sheikh Hasina said: “It is a matter of honor and pride for any unit to qualify for the national flag. Today you have obtained the national flag, a symbol of that freedom, of sovereignty. This flag has been delivered to you by the Army Chief of Staff on my behalf. I couldn’t, it’s my misfortune. However, even in places where travel has been restricted by this coronavirus, I want you to be able to earn the honor of receiving this flag in a timely manner. He congratulated all recipients of the national flag and said: “You have achieved this glory and I hope that the trust and confidence of the nation remain intact.” You will dedicate yourself to the service of the country. Stating that a lot of money would be needed if the Corona epidemic were to resurface, the Prime Minister ordered concerned officials to be more frugal in spending government money.
“We have to be frugal,” he said. We shouldn’t spend more money now than we need to.
Instructing those interested in spending budget money frugally, Sheikh Hasina said: “We are working tirelessly for the well-being of the people even at this critical time for Kovid-19.” This time I have given a budget of 5 lakh 8 thousand crore. Provision of health care equipment, incentives in 21 packages to boost the economy, including increased agricultural production, immediate provision of food and other aid to affected and unemployed people, cash assistance to affected farmers, workers and day laborers. He said: ‘More than 10 million families have benefited from this. We have provided cash assistance to 5 million people, including affected farmers, workers and day laborers.
“People have to cooperate with us again, they have to treat us, they have to buy medicines, we may need more doctors and nurses,” he said. We have to be frugal with that in mind.
Highlighting the second round of corona epidemics in different countries of the world, the Prime Minister said: ‘The coronavirus still has an effect. It is feared that the coronavirus could resurface. Because it reappears in different countries including Europe.
“We all need to be safe from now on,” he said. At the same time, we have to continue food production. We will ask you to fulfill your responsibilities in this regard.
Urging further increase in food production, Sheikh Hasina said: “My directive in agriculture was to produce a large quantity of food. In any case, so there is no food crisis.
“We are seeing a global food crisis due to the coronavirus,” he said. Many developed countries are also struggling. In Bangladesh, we took the right steps at the right time, so we don’t have that problem today.
Sheikh Hasina thanked the Armed Forces for supporting the affected people in the fight against Corona.
The Prime Minister said: “Even in this coronavirus, our military has been implementing a comprehensive program for many months. You are playing a special role in creating awareness among people, distributing relief to them, cooperating with them in various ways, increasing their awareness of Corona.

Urging members of the military to live honestly and professionally, Sheikh Hasina said: “The military is a symbol of the wealth of the country and the trust and confidence of the people.
