Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Wednesday called on the Bangladeshi army to remain prepared to face any domestic and foreign threats to maintain the unity of the Holy Constitution and the sovereignty of the homeland.

“You have to be prepared to face any threat inside and outside the country while maintaining unity to safeguard the sacred constitution and the sovereignty of the homeland,” he said.

The Prime Minister said this while addressing the flag-raising ceremony of eight units and organizations of the Bangladesh Army. He virtually attended the performance held at Sheikh Hasina Cantonment in Lebukhali, Patuakhali from his official residence in Ganobhaban.

The Prime Minister said that the Bangladesh Army is a symbol of trust and security of the people of the country and that they must move forward by gaining the trust of the people.

He mentioned that the first requirement of military members as members of the Bangladesh Army is professionalism and training.

“And to achieve this desired standard of professionalism, everyone must be professionally competent, attracted to religious and social values, and lead an honest and prosperous life,” he said.

The Prime Minister expected members of the Army to work diligently to fulfill the responsibilities entrusted to them, while maintaining the core driving force of the Army, including trust, mutual trust, compassion, brotherhood, duty, sense of duty and, above all, discipline.

He said the government wants the members of the armed forces to fulfill their responsibilities towards the homeland, the country and the people out of a sense of duty.

Reiterating the foreign policy of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, he said: “Bangladesh does not want war with anyone, but friendship with everyone.”

“We want to make Bangladesh economically prosperous with this friendly relationship,” he said.

However, he claimed that if there were an attack on Bangladesh at any time, the government would be prepared to deal with it.

“We want to be prepared, we want peace and friendship, we do not want enmity and war, because we have already witnessed the devastation of war, we are victims of war, we do not want to get involved in such conflicts again,” he said.

He said that Bangladesh wants to advance peacefully towards prosperity.

Sheikh Hasina said that the economic development and prosperity of the country is the main goal of the government and that they are working tirelessly to achieve it.

The Prime Minister said that the government has taken all necessary measures to develop the Bangladesh Army capable of meeting the geopolitical and military challenges of the 21st century.

In this case, he mentioned that “the government is implementing ‘Force Goal 2030’ following the defense policy of the father of the nation.”

He praised the dedication and responsibility of the members of the Army in facing various natural calamities and humanitarian crises and asked them to continue those efforts in the coming days.

The Prime Minister also praised the Army’s role in fighting the Kovid-19 epidemic, saying that members of the Army are appreciated for raising public awareness of the coronavirus.

He said that it is a matter of honor and pride to receive the national flag of any battalion or unit of any force.

The Army Chief of Staff, General Aziz Ahmed, addressed the function from the Lebukhali Sheikh Hasina Cantonment in Patuakhali.
