The Prime Minister said: “This epidemic has given us an opportunity to make a concerted effort to save people’s lives and livelihoods and to learn from this crisis to improve it.”
Sheikh Hasina said: “Unfortunately, our fight against Kovid-19 is not over yet. Many countries are facing a second or third push.
Noting that Bangladesh has been severely affected by the epidemic, the Prime Minister said: “Kovid-19 has severely affected our economy, our lives and livelihoods, our migrant population, and has undermined our successful development work.”
Sheikh Hasina said: “However, we have intervened from the beginning and effectively and taken bold steps to protect our economy and our people from the epidemic.” My government has announced an incentive package worth £ 14,140 million to reduce the impact on our business, employment and productivity, which is equivalent to 4.3 per cent of our GDP.
The prime minister said they have expanded their social security coverage to help more than 25 million people since the virus was identified in early March. He said that great measures have been taken to deal with the second wave of the epidemic.
