Jessore: The onion market in Jessore has become restless with the news that the export of onions from India has stopped. The price of all kinds of onions has doubled in one night.
Wholesale and retail prices for onions are now increasing. Onion importers have raised prices since the Indian government announced a ban on onion exports, onion traders say.
Meanwhile, buyers complained that due to the lack of market surveillance by management, traders are increasing the price of onion as they wish.
Speaking with buyers and sellers in various markets in Jessore on Tuesday (September 15) evening, it emerged that on Monday (September 14) the price for domestic onion was 55 rupees and Indian onion 42 rupees. But the price of onion has been going up since Tuesday morning. On the same day, Indian onions were sold at 60 Tk / kg and Indian onions were sold at 60 Tk / kg at the large market in Jessore.
Rezaul Islam, a Circuit House area resident, who came to the market at the big market on Tuesday afternoon, told banglanews that the onion price was low on Monday. But under the pretext of the Indian government’s announcement to stop onion exports, traders have suddenly raised prices. As a result, we have to struggle to buy onions. Local traders have raised the price of onions through a union. Despite having enough onions, they are trying to create an artificial crisis.
He urged senior government officials, including the district administration, to monitor the market to reduce rising onion prices.
Rezaul Islam, an onion trader at the city’s large market, told banglanews that many buyers are buying and storing more onions on the news of rising onion prices. Additionally, we are retailing what we buy at wholesale prices. Onion importers have raised the price of onions.
Jessore (DC) Deputy Commissioner Tamizul Islam Khan told banglanews that the market is being monitored regularly. Campaigns are underway to prevent someone from raising the price of onions by creating an artificial crisis due to the suspension of onion exports to India.
