President. Abdul Hamid stressed the need for direct communications and connections by air and water between the Maldives and Bangladesh to boost trade and investment ties. He made the remarks during a courtesy visit to Maldivian President Ibrahim Mohamed Salih in Bangabhaban on Thursday night.

Describing tourism as a very promising field for both Bangladesh and the Maldives, the president called on investors and entrepreneurs to work together to tap into the existing potential of the two countries.

After the meeting, President Joynal Abedin’s press secretary briefed the media. Subsequently, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, First Lady Rashida Khanam and First Lady of the Maldives Fazna Ahmed were present on the occasion. In honor of the President of the Maldives, who came to Dhaka on a three-day visit to participate in the celebration of the golden anniversary of the independence of Bangladesh and the centenary of the birth of the father of the nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. Abdul Hamid was the host of the dinner.

Praising the Maldivian government for providing free Covid-19 vaccine to Bangladeshis living in the Maldives, President Hamid said: “Bangladesh is ready to send more skilled labor to Maldives in various professions. Welcoming the initiative to select Bangladesh as the field of medical and technological education for Maldivian students, the President said that “Bangladesh has the potential to bring educational opportunities to more students.”

Referring to various memorandums of understanding between Bangladesh and the Maldives on bilateral issues, Hamid said that the visit of the Maldivian president would be a unique milestone in the development of relations between the two countries.

President Abdul Hamid called on the Maldives to import international quality Bangladeshi products from Bangladesh, including medicines, ready-made garments (RMG) and ceramics, and said it would benefit both countries.

President Salih agreed to establish air and water connections between Bangladesh and the Maldives, and said it would help expand trade and investment between the two countries in the future.

Salih praised the unprecedented progress made under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to transform Bangladesh into a developed country by 2041.

Subsequently, the President of the Maldives signed the Bangabhaban Inspector Book. He enjoyed a 25-minute long cultural program presented by the Shilpakala Academy of Bangladesh at the Durbar Hall in Bangabhaban.

Meanwhile, in addition to the meeting, the First Lady of the Maldives, Fazna Ahmed, paid a courtesy visit to Rashida Khanam, wife of the President of Bangladesh. They exchanged views and exchanged greetings.
