Saddam Hussein, a member of the Tafalbari Police Post in Bagerhat’s Sharankhola upazila, was arrested when he tried to dismember her body after killing his pregnant wife. Police arrested his 35-year-old wife Josna Begum in a rented house near the outpost Thursday night in a tip while hiding her body in a sack. The Sharankhola Police Inspector (Investigation) said the policeman confessed to the murder during preliminary questioning. Mofizur Rahman has confirmed it.
He said that at one stage of the altercation, a member of the Tafalbari police outpost, Saddam Hussein, strangled his wife to death. After the incident, the son and daughter of the previous victim’s sister came to the house and searched for Josna Begum. Saddam Hussein said that Josna had gone to another house. Subsequently, to prevent the body from being identified, the head, wrists of both hands were cut from the body and the fetus was removed from the abdomen and the body was placed in a geo-bag used by the police.
It added that the manager of the Tafalbari outpost was instructed to investigate the matter after the news that the domestic worker had been beaten. At one point, his wife’s body was found in the policeman’s rented house and he was arrested.
The OC said Josna Begum’s father’s house was in the Changao area of the Rupsha police station and the policeman’s house was in the Asashuni police station in the Satkhira district. He said the family of the deceased was preparing a murder case.
