Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has said that initiatives have been taken to establish communication with the interior and neighboring countries through the overall development of the air communication system.

The Prime Minister said this while inaugurating the ‘Dhrubatara’ plane via video conference from Ganobhaban on Sunday (December 26) around 12:15 pm.

Sheikh Hasina said: “Initiatives have been taken to establish communication with the interior and neighboring countries through the overall development of the air communication system.” He said: “The launch of the new Dash 8-400 ‘Dhruvatara’ with the latest technology, which has just been added to the Biman Bangladesh Airlines fleet, will improve internal communication and connect with neighboring countries.”

Sheikh Hasina further said: ‘We live in this subcontinent. Our geographical location is wonderful: if we can establish good communication with neighboring countries in one place, trade and commerce can be improved from all sides. The necessary steps have been taken to take this into account. However, the coronavirus has turned the aspirations that have been taken with various initiatives, including aviation, upside down.

The Prime Minister said: ‘What we take is the most modern and advanced. But our misfortune is the same, when we buy so many planes, we will communicate in the international arena or within the country, but it is not possible through Corona. After coming to power for the first time, we will upgrade the Dhaka International Airport as well as the Sylhet and Chittagong International Airports.

The Prime Minister further said that the Dhaka International Airport in 1996 was in poor condition. We change radically with initiative. Then there was no boarding bridge or anything like that. Everything is done by the Awami League government. Now we are improving it. The third terminal is also under construction. Additionally, Cox’s Bazar is being developed as an international standard airport. Other airports are under development, including Syedpur, Sylhet and Rajshahi.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has named all the aircraft that have already been added to the fleet. The ‘Dhruvatara’ is the first of three Dash 8-400 aircraft purchased on a G2G basis between the governments of Bangladesh and Canada.

Built by Canadian aircraft manufacturer De Havilland, the 64-seater Dash 8-400 is environmentally friendly with state-of-the-art facilities. With the incorporation of the new aircraft, the total number of existing aircraft in the fleet amounts to 19. Of these, four are Boeing 8-300ER, four are Boeing 6-7, two are Boeing 8-9, six are Boeing 737 and three They are Dash 8-400 aircraft.
