The parents of a madrasa teacher accused of beating a student boy at Chittagong Hathazari do not want punishment. After detaining the teacher, they requested in writing to the Upazila Nirbahi officer not to take legal action in this regard.
The incident took place at the Islamic Academy of the Quran Markazul in Hathazari Upazila around 5 p.m. on Tuesday (March 9). Hafez Yahya Hafez, student of the Madrasa master. The locals said that Yasin had severely beaten Farhad.
The student was brutally beaten by a madrasa teacher for going with his mother. When the video of the torture was posted on Facebook, there was a storm of protests. The video shows Master Yahya grabbing his student Yasin Farhad from outside the madrassa, leading him into a room and brutally beating him with a cane.
After the video was leaked, the police raided the Markazul Islamic Quran Academy in Fatika village of Hathazari Township around 1 p.m. Tuesday and arrested the accused madrasa teacher Hafez Yahya.
However, the administration was unable to take legal action against the guilty teacher, as the student’s parents had given a written statement to the effect that they had pardoned the accused madrasa teacher.
Said the Executive Officer of Hathazari Upazila (UN). Ruhul Amin told the media: ‘Madrasa teacher Hafez Yahya beat one of his students. A video of the incident was released on social media. After the matter came to light, I went to the madrasa with the police and arrested Hafeez Yahya around 12:30 pm on Tuesday.
The boy’s parents refused to take disciplinary action against the teacher, UNO said. Two people came to my office and asked me to release the teacher. But on the way back, the boy made a promise to go home to his parents. At one point, he followed his parents out of the front door of the madrasa. And Yahya, the lord of the madrasa, was enraged by this. The only reason he went out the front door with his parents was because he hit the boy with a cane. When one of the students uploaded a video of the incident on Facebook, netizens spoke out in protest of the brutal torture.
