The indigenous Dilip Khalko (30) has been held in Rajshahi Central Jail for eight years for a rape case. He was sentenced to life in prison by a lower court in 2012 after allegations of rape were substantiated. Dilip’s attorney requested bail in a recent higher court hearing. The rape victim was present in court during the hearing. The defendant’s attorney told the court that they (the plaintiff and the defendant) would marry. It is known that on October 22, Judge M Enayetur Rahim and Judge Md. A double division High Court composed of Mostafizur Rahman ordered Karafat to marry the victim and the accused. Dilip Khalko’s wedding ceremony was held at Rajshahi Central Jail on Saturday (December 5) afternoon. Prisoner Dilip Khalko’s home is located in the Godagari upazila village of Rajshahi in Chaitanyapur Vikarpara. He is the son of Sitanath Khalko from that village. At least 14 people from two families, including the bride, were gathered at the Rajshahi Central Jail facility on their wedding day. Members of the local Parishad Union (UP) were also present. They were accompanied by the eight-year-old son of a rape victim.
The two family members, including the girlfriend, reached the Padma river bank in front of the jail in a shallow Nasim powered by a motor around 11:30 pm. They were then taken to the jail gate around noon. The Hindu marriage registrar Krishna Devi and the priest Parimal Chakraborty were already present at the call of the prison authorities. After the bride’s party, the groom Dilip Khalko was released from prison. Then, the marriage ceremony began at 12:30 pm in the presence of the main superintendent of the jail, Subrata Kumar Bala. The wedding ceremony ends in the afternoon. The jail superintendent gave the bride a new sari. Everyone in the two families also made candy.
The wedding could not be photographed because Dilip was still incarcerated as a prisoner. However, Dilip’s feelings are known. Dilip said: ‘It feels good to get married. Everyone will pray. So we can have a happy and peaceful family. ‘ “We want to have a good time the rest of our lives,” said the bride.
Rajshahi Central Jail Jail Chief Superintendent Subrata Kumar Bala said the high court had ordered Karafat to complete Dilip’s marriage to the raped woman. The two parties were called after receiving a copy of the court order three days ago. The marriage went smoothly. Now your marriage documents will be sent to the superior court as soon as possible.
According to the sources in the case, Dilip Kumar and the victim are cousins. They had a love story. On this basis, Dilip had sexual relations with the victim on February 25, 2011, promising to marry her. The victim became pregnant. But Dilip no longer agreed to marry her. There was a delay in the arbitration of the matter.
As there was finally no arbitration meeting, the victim underwent a pregnancy test on October 23 of that year. Then, on October 25, he appeared at the Godagari Model Police Station and filed a case against Dilip Khalko for rape. Charges were brought against the defendants in the case on January 29, 2012 at the Court for the Suppression of Abuse of Women and Children in Rajshahi. Following the trial, the court sentenced Dilip Khalko to life imprisonment and fined him 50,000 taka on 12 June of that year.
The victim was 14 years old when she was raped. But at that age a son came into her lap. The girl no longer received an education. Educated up to the seventh grade, this girl from the indigenous Christian community started a new life as a farm worker. His children grow day by day. His son is now eight years old. Dilip has also been incarcerated for eight years. After so long, the two families have reached an agreement. The court ordered their marriage with the consent of the bride. Now, if the marriage papers go to the higher court, Dilip Khalko can get a bond.
