Locals arrested a painter named Kalam (45) while raping an eight-year-old boy in Sirajganj and handed him over to the police.

The incident took place in a rice field near the Fakirtala Polytechnic Institute in the Khokshabari Union of the Upazila on Saturday night. The court sent him to jail on Sunday morning.

The detainee is the son of the late Messer Ali of Janpur Madhyapara Mahalla from the Kalam municipal area. The child victim is a resident of the same area.

A witness said the rapist was giving the girl Kalam Bill shapla flowers. At one point, he took the girl by the hand and led her to the rice field to talk. After 15-20 minutes, they did not leave the paddy field, which raised suspicions.

Later, some locals marched to the rice field and arrested Kalam. She confessed to the rape and asked to be released. Later, the local mob informed the police about the rapist. Upon receiving the news, the police arrested Kalam at the scene and took him to the police station.

According to the raped girl, Kalam took her to a rice field out of greed to pay 50 rupees.

Sadar Police Station Inspector (investigation) Golam Mostafa said that locals arrested rapist Kalam and reported to the police station. Upon receiving the news, the police went to the scene and arrested the rapist Kalam. The court sent him to jail on Sunday morning.
