The order on the validity of Taksim’s re-election in Dhaka WASA was issued on Sunday.

The order petition challenging the validity of the re-election was heard on Wednesday by Judge JBM Hasan and Judge Md. The Khairul Alam High Court set the date of the order.

Lawyers Tanvir Ahmed and Abdullah Abu Saeed appeared before the petitioner in court. Assistant Attorney General Noor Us Sadiq was present at the hearing on behalf of the state.

Engineer Khandaker Manzur Morshed, a resident of the Dhaka South City Corporation, filed a court petition on September 24 after the WASA board of directors proposed to reappoint Taksim A Khan as MD.

Before the hearing, the government approved the proposal on October 1 and decided to keep Taksim as MD for another three years.

Attorney Tanvir Ahmed told bdnews24.com: “After the appointment was approved, another supplemental application was filed today challenging the validity of the appointment. The court has held a hearing. The order will be issued next Sunday.”

The Dhaka WASA Board of Directors meeting was held on September 19 at the invitation of engineer Sharmin Haque Amir, Dhaka WASA secretary. The only topic of discussion at the meeting was the proposal to reappoint engineer Taksim A Khan as managing director of the local government department for three years.

At that meeting, the final decision was made to appoint Taksim A Khan as Managing Director (MD) of WASA for the sixth time. Subsequently, an appeal petition was filed with the Superior Court challenging the decision.

In 2009, Taksim A Khan was appointed Managing Director of Dhaka WASA for the first time. His fifth term expires on Wednesday, after which his new term begins.
