Legal opportunities are being created to compile a list of members of the Razakars, Al-Badr and Al-Shams who opposed the great war of liberation in 1971. Taking advantage of this opportunity, the cabinet approved the draft of the Law of the National Council of Freedom Fighters-2020. Monday’s cabinet meeting approved the draft of the new law repealing the existing law. It will become law later if it is approved in the National Assembly at the end of several processes. The virtual meeting was held under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Subsequently, Cabinet Secretary Khandaker Anwarul Islam announced the decision at a press conference at the Secretariat. The Cabinet Secretary said that a list of those who were involved in the liberation war from March 26 to December 16, 1971 as members of the Razakar, Al-Badr and Al-Shams forces should be prepared and published or to be they opposed the war of independence or liberation of Bangladesh so that they would not participate in the armed struggle as members of the paramilitary forces. The Muktijoddha Council will make recommendations to the government. The existing law does not have this provision. When asked if there were any decisions at today’s cabinet meeting to prepare the Razakars list, the cabinet secretary said: “Let the law be made first.” Implementation was not discussed. Apart from this, the proposed law has established various provisions, including preparing a list of real freedom fighters as before, taking action on the basis of false information.
