Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) is raiding the Sundarbans Square supermarket in Gulistan, the capital, to vacate unplanned stores.
The operation began at 12 noon on Thursday (December 16).
The operation, led by Russell Sabrin, the corporation’s director of properties, did not deter today’s merchants. Half an hour after the operation, the DSCC evicted the illegal tong shops on the sidewalk adjacent to the market.
Previously, on December 6, DSCC evicted 250 stores from the Fulbaria-2 Supermarket. The operation was carried out on the first day of the illegal tent eviction campaign. At the beginning of the operation, there were several altercations with the squatters, chases and tear gas bombings. Several people were injured. Subsequently, the eviction campaign was carried out in front of Nagar Plaza. The following day, December 9, the campaign to evict the Fulbaria-2 Supermarket was carried out.
According to the relevant sources of the corporation, there are unplanned stores in Bipinibitan. Some of these stores have restrooms, elevators, and hallways. They are being evicted.
