Munshiganj: Police arrested Qadir Sheikh (38), the only defendant in the rape case of a 72-year-old woman in Munshiganj Sadar Upazila. He was arrested at 8:30 pm on Saturday (October 3).
Qadir was trying to escape by boat through a canal in the East Shilmandi village of Sadar upazila. He is the son of the late Amin Sheikh from that village.
Munshiganj Sadar Police Officer in Charge Mohammad Anichur Rahman said that Qadir Sheikh, the only defendant in the case, was arrested in a notice. He was trying to escape by boat. At that time, a team of the Sadar police came and arrested him at the scene.
He said the woman left her home on September 30 at 9 p.m. to perform ablution for prayers. At that moment, neighbor Qadir Sheikh grabbed her by the face, led her inside the house and raped her.
Then, on Saturday (October 3) around 3 pm, the old woman arrived at the police station and filed a rape complaint against one of the accused.
