A young man named Shamim picked up a divorced girl and raped her in the Pailgaon marriage of Jagannathpur upazila of Sunamganj. The scoundrels beat the old father with a stick and inflicted bloody wounds on him.
The incident took place around 1pm on Monday. Police rescued the girl on Tuesday morning and took her to the police station.
Police arrested four people in the incident. However, the police have yet to arrest the main defendant Lumpat Shamim.
ASP Jagannathpur’s circle, Mahmudul Hasan Chowdhury, told Jugantar at 2pm on Tuesday that four people had been arrested for their alleged involvement in the incident. Those arrested are Liton Mia (32), Akai Mia (28), Alam Mia (28) and Dilak Mia (28) from Gotgaon village.
He added that the police operation to arrest the main defendant Shamim was continuing.
Police, locals and relatives of the tortured old man said that Oime was married to Kabir Miah from Rajarbagh village in Nabiganj upazila seven years ago. Two years later, when a marriage dispute broke out between them, the girl took refuge in her father’s house with her only son. When she got there, Shamim Mia, the talented son of Angur Mia from the village, looked at the girl.
Shamim Mia used to tease and abuse the girl. Exasperated by her torture, the girl’s father rented a Gotgaon house to a colony in Aliganj Bazar and lived with her. A month ago, Shamim picked up the girl from the colony. Detained for a few days and raped. Later, the girl got a job as a domestic worker in the village of Nabiganj upazila in Abhaynagar.
Shamim and his men went to the Aliganj Bazar neighborhood around 1 pm Monday to search for the girl. When he could not find the girl, he struck his elderly father (8) with a stick and inflicted bloody wounds. Upon receiving the news, the Police launched an operation to arrest the scoundrels.
The girl’s father said that he has been terrified for his daughter for a long time due to Shamim’s torture. The matter was brought to the attention of local dignitaries and representatives of the people, but no solution was found. He forcibly took the girl out of the house and raped her. Fearing public embarrassment, the girl took a job as a maid in Nabiganj here. Shamim got angry and hit me with a stick and left me bloody.
Pailgaon Union Parishad president Makhleshur Rahman said Shamim was known as a scoundrel in the area. There are robbery and drug cases against him at the police station. The incident of sexually abusing and forcibly taking the girl is very scary. I want exemplary punishment for them.
Jagannathpur SI Zahir Uddin Police Station said four defendants were arrested in the incident Tuesday morning and the tortured girl was rescued. An attempt is being made to arrest the main defendant Lumpat Shamim.
