AM Amin Uddin has been appointed Attorney General. He currently serves as president of the Bar Association of the Supreme Court. AM Amin Uddin, Chief Counsel of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh, is the two-time President of the Supreme Court Bar Association. Attorney General Mahbubey Alam died of coronavirus on September 28, vacating the position of chief state attorney.

The notification from the Ministry of Law published today read: ‘His Excellency the President. Abdul Hamid has appointed Mr. AM Amin Uddin, Senior Counsel of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh and current Chairman of the Supreme Court Bar Association, as Attorney General of Bangladesh today. Attorney General is a constitutional term. The Attorney General provides legal advice to the government on the constitution, international treaties, and other important issues.

It is worth mentioning that Attorney General Mahbubey Alam died at the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in Dhaka on September 28 while undergoing treatment. He was the thirteenth Attorney General of Bangladesh.

He served as Additional Attorney General from November 15, 1996 to October 4, 2001. Mahbubey Alam was elected Secretary of the Bar of the Supreme Court in 1993-94 and President in 2005-2006. He was later appointed Attorney General on January 13, 2009. He was in this position until his death.
