The new Amir Babungari of Hefazat, Secretary General Kasemi

Allama Junaid Babungari, Secretary General of Hifazat-e-Islam Bangladesh and Director of Education of Hathazari Madrasa has been elected Emir of Hifazat-e-Islam Bangladesh. Hefazat-e-Islam has announced a proposed 151-member committee by electing him as Amir after a day-long discussion. Through this, Babungari was inaugurated as the successor to the late Allama Shah Shafi. Nur Hossain Kasemi, director of the Jamia Madania Baridhara Madrasa in Dhaka and Amir of the Dhaka Metropolitan Branch of Hefazat, has been elected the organization’s general secretary.

The decision was made at noon on Sunday (November 15) at the Central Conference (Council) of Hefazat-e-Islam Bangladesh. The announcement was made by Maulana Mahfuzul Haque, Secretary General of Befaqul Madarisil Arabia Bangladesh (BEFAC) on behalf of Hefazat Senior Naib Amir, President of the Conference, around 2:00 pm.

At the conference, a 12-member subcommittee chaired by Allama Muhibullah Babungari proposed the new committee. He said that if no objections are raised, Hifazat’s central leaders would meet on Monday to finalize the committee.
The committee has announced 32 Naib Amir positions, 4 Co-Secretary General positions and 16 Assistant Secretary General positions.

Zakaria Mohammad Faizi has secured the position of advertising secretary on the committee.

Earlier, the Conference of National Representatives (Council) started at 10 am at Al Jamiatul Ahlia Darul Uloom Mueenul Islam Hathazari Madrasa in Chittagong, known as the Hefazat headquarters. The conference was attended by 360 of the best Qaumi Alems as councilors from different parts of the country. Ahmed Shafi’s successor was determined at the conference.

By the way, Amir Shah Ahmad Shafi, the founder of Hefazat-e-Islam Bangladesh, died on September 17 this year while undergoing treatment in Dhaka. Since then, Amir’s position in the organization has been vacant.
