The police have recovered the naked and wounded body of a missing housewife in Jivannagar upazila de Chuadanga.

The body of the housewife was recovered from a field in the Uthli Mollabari area of upazila on Wednesday night, three days after her disappearance. The woman’s body bore the marks of multiple sharp weapons, police said.

The deceased was identified as Tanjira Khatun, 25. She is the wife of Abdus Salam from Singnagar village in Upazila.

Early Monday morning, Tanjira and her husband disappeared while collecting fuel in the field. The wife’s body was recovered, but the husband is still missing. The police believe that Tanjira Khatun was killed by her husband Abdus Salam.

According to local sources, Abdus Salam from Singnagar in Jivannagar upazila had been living with his wife in Akandabaria in Chuadanga Sadar upazila for three months. They lived in room number five of barracks number five of that residence.

They went out into the field around 9 a.m. Monday to collect fuel. She leaves her two daughters, Sabina Khatun (5) and Alia Khatun (3), at home.

When the parents did not return until evening, the locals left the two little girls with their grandmother in Singnagar village.

Police were informed on Wednesday night that Tanjira Khatun’s naked and mutilated body was found in an isolated Komarpara camp near the Mollabari bus stop in the Uthli village of upazila. The police recovered the body overnight.

Amena Begum, who lives in Akandbaria, said Tanjira’s husband, Abdus Salam, did not work much. From time to time he would go begging with his wife. Sometimes he used to beat his wife Tanjira Khatun for money.

At around 9 a.m. on Monday, husband Abdus Salam went out with his wife to collect fuel for cooking and never returned.

Jivannagar Police Station OC Ferdous Wahid said the late Tanjira Khatun had stab wounds to her head and various parts of her body, including her neck. The killings may have taken place sometime on Monday.

However, it was initially thought that Abdus Salam’s own husband beat his wife to death.

The Chuadanga District Police Deputy Superintendent (Damurhuda Circle) said. Abu Russell said that several police teams have come to the field to unravel the true mystery of the murder and catch the killer.
