Waiting for the transition to democratic governance is a positive process. But you have to take reality into account. If China and the United States think that there should be a democratic government in Myanmar, then democracy will be established there. Otherwise, the chances are low. The geographical location, the proximity of the Indian Ocean, the combination of natural resources, the border with China – all these things must be taken into account when discussing the political future of Myanmar. These are resources and benefits for Myanmar, but also a curse. That is why democracy does not reach Myanmar. The army runs the country like a puppet of foreign powers.
Many suspect that China has fueled the coup in Myanmar. Just three weeks ago, the Chinese Foreign Minister visited Myanmar. He met with the Myanmar army chief and Suu Kyi. China would never want the United States to tease itself and start breathing. If Suu Kyi’s party returns to power and the influence of pro-China military officials in the government diminishes, China may fall into chaos. A few days ago, Myanmar was leaning towards the United States and India. At the time, Myanmar military officials blamed China for aiding the Karen rebels. If China is really driving the coup, then China’s position in Myanmar is strengthening.
