A woman has been arrested in Sweden for keeping her son under house arrest for almost 30 years. The incident took place on the outskirts of the country’s capital, Stockholm. However, the detained woman has denied having kept her son in custody.
The BBC reports that the woman recently became ill. Then he was admitted to the hospital. One of his relatives, who arrived at the apartment last Sunday after receiving the news, found the captive child. Now he is being treated in the hospital.
The police have sealed the apartment in the Hannings area of Stockholm to investigate. Police are looking for evidence to find out what really happened there.
The relative said he last came to his apartment 20 years ago. At that time, he was worried about the boy and tried to warn everyone. When the boy was between 11 and 12 years old, his name was removed from the school record and he was brought home. He is now 40 years old.
The relative arrived at his apartment last Sunday after receiving the news of the child’s mother’s illness. Later he opened the door and saw that it was dark and covered in dust. The foul smell of earth comes from there. Then he yelled “hi”. There was no response to his reply. Then he entered the house through the pile of things. Hearing the sound in the kitchen, he saw a man sitting in a dark corner. You could see him in the street light from outside. His legs were bruised.
The woman told a Swedish newspaper that the man saw her and stood up. Then he kept calling her by name. His words were vague. Almost all of the man’s teeth have fallen out.
He said that somehow the man still recognized him after so many years. But he wasn’t afraid to see it. After taking him to the hospital, the doctors informed the police. Then his mother was arrested.
A government prosecutor in Stockholm told Reuters that the rescued man had to undergo surgery. He said no more than that.
A police spokesman told Reuters: “We are investigating how long the man has been detained. Our idea, however, was that he had been imprisoned for a long time.
The woman who found the man said in an interview with Sweden’s public television station that the man’s mother had lost a child earlier. He was devastated by this incident.
