In Ishwarganj upazila in Mymensingh, the mother sold three saris that she used to raise money for homework.

The incident took place in the Atharbari village of upazila on Thursday (November 5). Later, when the topic spread to Facebook social media, there was a stir.

All schools are known to assign homework at the end of the year to check the merits or grades of students, as schools are closed during the crowning period.

In this situation, the teachers want money when Ritu Akhter, a seventh-class student from MC Secondary School from upazila came to bring homework last Thursday. The mother sells her clothes to pay for her daughter’s allowance.

Ritu Akhter said a day laborer in the area. Daughter of Shahid Miah. He is a seventh class student from Atharbari MC High School.

According to Ritu Akhter, when asked to give an assignment, teacher Anwar Hossain asked for 340 rupees with a three-page question, two pens, and a one-page suggestion. At that moment, the teacher reprimanded me and threw me out.

You have to pay 340 rupees; Teacher Anwar said that if he couldn’t pay, he couldn’t pass the eighth grade. Later, Ritu went home crying and informed her mother Bilkis Akhter about the incident.

Bilkis, Ritu’s mother, said the girl went to school and asked teacher Anwar Hossain to pay her 340 rupees if she requested an assignment. So my daughter had 100 rupees. But sir, I want 340 rupees without allowance. If you can’t pay, they can pick you up in upper class.

Later the girl came home and cried a lot. Unable to bear her crying, I sold the house’s three old saris for 300 rupees and paid for them.

Said the principal of MC High School. Zahirul Islam said that the assignment does not cost money. A notice has been issued to show why the teacher took the money. Action will be taken against him.

Ishwarganj Upazila Secondary Education Officer. Ashraful Islam said that they had given him a notice of proven cause why the teacher had taken extra money for the students’ homework. Action will be taken based on the notice.
