A teenage girl has been raped in Bagerhat. Police arrested the girl’s stepfather on rape charges. The incident took place in the village of Bagerhat Sadar upazila in Bhattapratap around 8pm on Saturday. The girl was taken to Bagerhat Sadar Hospital for a medical examination on Sunday.
The arrested Ibadat Sheikh (31) is the son of Gaus Sheikh from the village of Bhattapratap in Bagerhat Sadar upazila. He is a goat trader by profession, police said.
Citing the statement in the case, the officer in charge (CO) of the Bagerhat model police station KM Azizul Islam said that the girl’s mother divorced her first husband and married Ibadat Sheikh about two years ago after the death. of her second husband. The victim lived with her mother after her father’s death. Ibadat used to come and go in that house. The girl was home alone the night of the incident. On this occasion, the girl’s stepfather raped her. Suddenly, his mother came home and saw the scene.
OC KM Azizul Islam further said that the girl’s mother has filed a lawsuit against her third husband, Ibadat. Police arrested rapist Ibadat on Sunday morning.
Said Civil Surgeon Bagerhat. KM Humayun Kabir said the Sadar Hospital’s three-doctor medical board had examined the girl. The report will be delivered at the end of the analysis of the different samples collected.
